What does it mean to win? To paraphrase John Boyd, winning means to possess the ability to exercise independent action on ones own terms. This definition is interesting since it does not imply a zero sum game of one organization winning at the expense of another. Competition is never ending and multidimensional and this definition is as well. A thriving company will need to continually strive to enter new markets, integrate emerging technologies, and adopt new business models. A viable country needs to expand its markets, nurture existing alliances while establishing news ones, and ensure the safety of its people. A winning organization need not always dictate terms to its adversaries though it must be capable of pursuing its goals.
This blog will examine successful endeavors to distill winning organization attributes. Analyzing successes generates ideas an organization can integrate into its processes and culture to improve its performance. Ideally, these attributes will scale from small workgroups to the largest corporations.
